The second upcoming multiplayer map for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II was announced by Infinity Ward on Thursday.
The Farm 18 6-on-6 map takes place in a secret training facility within a massive cement factory.
Director of multiplayer design at Infinity Ward, Geoffrey Smith, explained the concept of a “shoot house-type situation” in the middle of the map in the trailer. “You can go right to the heart of the action if you want to play that crazy game. You can always take a step back and switch up your style of play if you’d like to.”
Raw design screens of the map’s layout can be seen in the supplemental gameplay footage, with the “shoot house” and its seemingly random assortment of rooms and angles seemingly placed perfectly for those unafraid to charge guns blazing.
Meanwhile, the surrounding area does have what seems to be the expected appearance for the cool, collected type.
Near the end of the trailer, Infinity Ward’s senior environment artist Ashley Thundercliffe reveals that the map’s foliage was a major challenge to implement.
“People will hide in the crevices if we have too much foliage, Thundercliffe warned. Our story of the overgrowth falls flat if we don’t make it seem dense enough. Thus, we have achieved a beautiful, realistic-looking environment that is also enjoyable for the players by striking a balance between all the departments involved in making it so.”
After the recent reveal of Marina Bay Grand Prix, another 6-on-6 multiplayer map for MW2, Infinity Ward has now shown off Farm 18.
Call of Duty: Next, a franchise showcase, will air on September 15 and provide fans with information about the MW2 beta and the upcoming game.
On October 28, 2012, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be released in stores around the world.
