Idris says his daughter didn’t speak to him for about 3 weeks after failing to land a role in his new film, “Beast”

Idris Elba talked about getting a break to The Breakfast Club and his daughter auditioning for the film Beast but not talking with her after not being chosen.

came down to chemistry. My daughter did an amazing job, but the chemistry between her and the other actors just didn’t work in the film. For about three weeks, I didn’t hear from my daughter at all.”

Elba stars as a man who, after his wife’s death, takes his two daughters (Iyana Halley and Leaf Sava Jeffires) to South Africa. A ferocious lion intent on killing them puts a damper on their trip.

Producer Will Packer, with whom Elba has collaborated on many other films, revealed on “The Breakfast Club” that he was the one to tell Isan she hadn’t gotten the part. Despite wanting to give his daughter a “shot,” he said he trusted Packer and the film’s director, Baltasar Kormákur, to make the best decision for the film and praised Elba for being “tough” on his daughter during the process.

Packer remarked, “She was very good, very close.” in reference to Isan. Idris is absolutely correct in saying that “sometimes the subtleties of that real-life relationship don’t translate on screen.”

As Elba put it, his daughter was “very gracious” about the whole thing. Later, she accompanied her dad to the movie’s premiere.

You know what I mean? I’m really proud of her for going through that,” Elba said. “And then not get the role, but still come to the premiere.”
