The 2022 World Junior Championships begin on August 9, giving the United States a chance to defend its title.

Due to the inclement weather, the initial tournament in December had to be postponed, but the IIHF has decided to restart the competition this summer.

The United States is the defending champion after they defeated Canada in the 2021 tournament’s gold medal game. This was only the United States’ fifth championship in the history of the World Juniors.

This summer, the squad will be led by first-round pick Luke Hughes of the Devils, second-round pick Brock Faber of the Wild, and first-round pick Matt Knies of the Maple Leafs.

USA Schedule and outcomes of the World Junior Championships

The 2022 World Junior Championship will feature a round-robin preliminary stage to determine seeding, followed by a single-elimination finals round.

The United States, as the defending champions, were placed in Group A as the top team, alongside Sweden, Switzerland, Germany, and Austria.
