Cheney claims in a campaign ad that “the lie that the 2020 presidential election was stolen is insidious.” It takes advantage of people who love their nation. Donald Trump has opened a channel for people to be manipulated into giving up their ideals, giving up their freedom, justifying violence, and disobeying the law and court decisions.

Cheney, the daughter of a former Republican vice president, was once seen as a front-runner to become speaker of the House but has since come under fire from Republican leaders and voters for opposing Trump and taking part in the House panel looking into the mob attack on the US Capitol by the former president’s supporters. Trump has endorsed Cheney’s main Republican opponent, Harriet Hageman, who, according to a University of Wyoming poll conducted from July 25 to August 6, had a lead of over 30 points among Republican primary voters.

Cheney has not been discouraged by her polling numbers, and her campaign had intended to take advantage of Democratic cross-over votes to improve her chances in the primary. Jim King, a political science professor at the University of Wyoming, stated in a statement on Thursday that the group is not very big.

Without naming them specifically, Cheney criticizes Hageman and her fellow Republican primary rivals for reiterating Trump’s assertions that the 2020 presidential election was rigged.

It is obvious that Cheney’s legacy has been shaped by her conflicts with Trump. Cheney supported Trump’s impeachment and serves as vice chair of the committee looking into the US Capitol uprising on January 6, 2021.

Cheney hasn’t made many public campaign appearances in Wyoming outside of advertisements. Because she has received death threats, she travels with a Capitol Police security detail and typically makes strictly supervised trips to supporters’ homes or other sites.
