On Thursday, multiple people were killed when two small planes collided over Watsonville, California.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) told PEOPLE that two planes collided “on their final approaches” to Watsonville Municipal Airport, which is about 50 miles south of San Jose. The single-engine Cessna 152 and the twin-engine Cessna 340 both had their origins in California.

KION46, a CBS affiliate, and ABC News both report that the Watsonville Police Department and the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) are helping with the investigation.
