AP — SEOUL, South Korea After thrashing Johor Darul Tazim of Malaysia 5-0 on Friday, Urawa Reds of Japan advanced to the Asian Champions League quarterfinals.

After just eight minutes, Alexander Scholz gave the Reds the lead from the penalty spot, and the two-time champion seemed at ease in front of his home crowd at Saitama Stadium. Kasper Junker added two more goals late in the game to secure the victory in the one-legged contest after David Moberg Karlsson scored twice before halftime.

Worachit Kanitsribumphen, Ikhsan Fandi, Teerasil Dangda, and Chatmongkol Tongkiri scored for Thailand’s Pathum United in a 4-0 victory over Hong Kong’s Kitchee in the round of 16.

The eastern zone quarterfinal lineup was completed on Thursday by South Korean Jeonbuk Motors and Japanese Vissel Kobe. Games will begin in Japan two days after the draw, which will happen on Saturday.

There are two geographical divisions for the competition. The western half of the draw’s round-of-16 matches won’t start until February 2023.
