On Saturday, the Commanders will play their first preseason game against the Panthers, and quarterback Carson Wentz will be there.

In his press conference on Thursday, head coach Ron Rivera stated his intention to keep his starters on the field for 15 to 20 plays during the contest.

All three quarterbacks, Wentz, Taylor Heinicke, and rookie Sam Howell, will have an opportunity to direct the offense, according to Rivera.

Taylor will enter the game after Carson, and Sam will complete it, according to Rivera, as quoted by NBCSportsWashington.com. “With Taylor, we’ll likely let Sam to finish before bringing him into the third quarter a little. Sam getting a two-minute [drive] at the conclusion of the game would be fantastic, and it’s the last thing we worked on today. That would be very awesome. He would get a lot from the experience as well. He still has a lot to learn, but all you’re looking for is consistency. I’m praying he succeeds, that he maintains control, and that when he tosses the ball, he places it consistently.

The participation of receiver Curtis Samuel on Saturday has also been confirmed by Rivera.

Samuel has been in and out of practice during training camp as he deals with some muscle soreness. Last season, Samuel played in just five games for Washington, compiling six receptions for 27 yards and 11 rushing yards on four carries. He played just 84 offensive snaps while on the field.

Rivera, Ron First preseason game will see starters take 15-20 snaps, according to Pro Football Talk.
