The expansion of their own private islands, like Royal Caribbean’s CocoCay, is a major goal for both cruise companies.
Since you are literally cruising around the ocean in a ship that is the equivalent of a sizable Las Vegas resort casino, the largest cruise ships have become into tourist attractions. This is essential because once ships reach a certain size, they can no longer dock in many ports.
People still want to stop, even though these mega-ships have more to do than can be completed in a week of sailing. This is difficult since only ports like Nassau and Cozumel, where many regular cruisers frequently stay on board, can accommodate numerous large ships at once.
RCL – Royal Caribbean International Get By making its CocoCay private island a popular destination, Royal Caribbean Group Report, which owns the largest cruise ship in the world, Wonder of the Seas, as well as numerous other enormous ships in its Oasis class, has partially solved its port problem. Prior to being renovated by Royal Caribbean, cruise line private islands were essentially beaches with bars and a BBQ.
The construction of “Perfect Day at CocoCay” by Royal Caribbean, a redesign of the private island experience, changed that. A large pool, numerous beach options, a waterpark with additional fees, and a pricey high-end beach club were added by CocoCay. The updated island also offers a range of food options and attractions, such zip lines, a tethered hot air balloon, and more, all of which are chargeable extras.
With the modifications, CocoCay went from being a “meh” destination to one that travelers scheduled vacations specifically for. With its planned “Royal Beach Club,” Royal Caribbean aims to follow that approach. Now, Carnival has a plan to build out its own destinations for its ships, so they aren’t the only firm building out its own destinations for its ships.
Carnival’s Port Concept Is Like a Private Island
In Grand Bahama, Carnival has an agreement to build a cruise terminal that resembles a private island. The port will have stores, a sizable pool, and dining options. The cruise company intends to incorporate it into the neighborhood.
The Grand Port project will be situated at the Sharp Rock location, ensuring easy access between the cruise port and Grand Bahama’s primary population core, which is only a short distance away, according to Carnival. “The project will be created and kept up to show off the island’s natural beauty and culture. Grand Bahama will be reimagined as a travel destination.”
On a webpage dedicated to the undertaking, Carnival provided more information.
“Offering a variety of culinary options, from fine dining to beachside nibbles, as well as experiences to suit all preferences, from the calm repose of the beach to high-adrenaline water and adventure amenities. The port’s many attractions will be connected by the Bahamian Town Square and Festival Walkway, which will have immaculate lawns surrounded by regional vegetation. In addition, a display of Junkanoo culture will take place here “the business added.
Two of the cruise line’s largest ships will be able to dock at the new port simultaneously, which may bring over 12,000 passengers to Grand Bahama.
Plans by Royal Caribbean for Nassau
Nassau has space for several sizable cruise ships. Because of this, stopping there is convenient for both Royal Caribbean and Carnival, but it also means that many cruise passengers have already been to the island.
Nassau is therefore not a particularly unique destination because so many travelers have already gone there (some many times). Royal Caribbean wants to change that by constructing a “Royal Beach Club” that is similar to CocoCay on a 13-acre location on Paradise Island (approximately 15-20 minutes from the cruise terminal).
Royal Caribbean has not provided information regarding whether the new “club” would be a free stop or incur an additional charge (or some combination of the two). The $50 million project, which had been put on hold during the pandemic, has been revealed to be continuing.
According to the Royal Caribbean Blog, the new private area will have a “26,000-square-foot pool; 4,000-square-foot “splash pad” for kids; 14 beach bars; restrooms and cabanas; and support infrastructure that includes a reverse osmosis plant, wastewater plant, waste management facility, storage building, and fuel storage all contained on two acres.”
Additionally, the location will have two dining pavilions measuring 35,000 square feet each and holding 1,500 guests.
