A documentary on the 2008 American men’s basketball squad called “The Redeem Team” will debut on Netflix on October 7.

LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, two of the captains of the squad that won gold at the Beijing Games, four years after the United States finished third at the Athens Olympics, are executive producers on the Netflix and International Olympic Committee-produced movie.

Wade mentioned that he would be executive producing a movie about the Mike Krzyzewski-led Duke team in 2020.

Wade noted on the Platform Basketball podcast at the time, “We’ve been working on that for the last year or two.” “For me, 2008 was a significant year. Everyone believed I was finished, so I had to sort of atone for my mistakes. But gosh, what a time that was, and how about that squad, dog? I’m really sorry. That group was exceptional.

Prior to the 2008 Beijing Games, ESPN presented a five-part documentary series.

In 2005, USA Basketball announced a long-term commitment to becoming a part of the 2008 Olympic team, led by new managing director Jerry Colangelo and new coach Krzyzewski.

Some athletes wanted to boost American pride. At the 2002 Worlds, 2004 Olympics, and 2006 Worlds, respectively, Americans placed sixth, third, and third. Both Kobe Bryant and Chris Paul stated that they preferred a gold medal to an NBA championship.

Since the Dream Team in 1992, an increasing number of NBA superstars have opted out of competing in the Olympics, with some citing the need for relaxation following a lengthy NBA season. That bleeding was stopped in Beijing. Bryant took part in his first Olympic game. Their Miami Heat get-together was the result of a friendship that James, Wade, and Chris Bosh forged.

With an in-form Pau Gasol and a 17-year-old Ricky Rubio, the squad went undefeated all the way to the gold-medal game against Spain. With 3:32 remaining, La Roja was down at 104-99 when Bryant hit a three-pointer and Rudy Fernandez received his fifth and final foul. With 2:25 left, Spain reduced the deficit to 108-104. The Americans won 118-107 after Wade made his fourth three-pointer of the contest.

In 2010, James and Bosh joined Wade on the Heat, and in 2012 and 2013, they won back-to-back championships.
